Media plays an important role in bringing awareness and acknowledging people’s efforts in various fields. Till now we believed that media people are trained to do their jobs well but with technology and changing times, it seems that its ‘convenience’ what they seek. Few phone calls and a footage of the site to appeal the audience… their work is over. If that’s the job, then probably it’s easy for anyone to become a journalist without the need for the right protocols.
If it’s too cold for CNN-IBN to authenticate and verify the work in Leh-Ladakh, then better not to touch it. They nominated LEDeG for the Indian of the Year Award in Public Service Category without verifying the role they played in the construction of 15 shelters in Leh and areas around. The work was a partnership between SEEDS INDIA and LEDeG where both the NGO’s equally shared their areas of expertise and built disaster resistant and solar passive houses for the 15 flood affected families.
The whole episode leaves a big question mark on the credibility of the information provided by the media. Maybe the deadlines and work pressure take precedence over responsible journalism. With the limited information that we have on how a nominee was selected from Ladakh region, we wonder what homework was done for rest fives nominations. (with due respect to all the nominees) As a citizen of India we are forced to think . . . are all these award functions worth any applause ?

Thank you for letting us know, the media mostly looks for convenience. Indeed sad state of affairs.
